Engine Tear Down

The kids from The Community Garage went to town on our little Ford 302!

We had a great time last weekend tearing down our engine in preparation for the rebuild. With donuts on hand at Evanston's Trade Collective, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.

Huge thanks goes out to Mr. Mark for coming out to help the kids make their way through the disassembly.

Rebuilding an engine is a gearhead right-of-passage. Awesome to have these young kids get hands on (and hands dirty) with the job.

When rebuilding an engine, everything has to come out – everything!

Once the engine was down to the bare block, it was time for a close inspection. The kids learned how to check the cylinder bores for out-of-round and taper conditions.

Now that we know what we are working with here, we have a bit of prep work to do before the gang returns to thrash on this.

We have two more sessions planned for this engine rebuild. Next up is our reassembly of the short block. Don’t miss all the fun – come JOIN US!
