That's a Wrap!

The kids of The Community Garage got in on vinyl wrapping a racecar!

Last year we picked up a Spec Iron Mustang that arrived with an existing wrap. Let’s just say it wasn’t what we had in mind...

So first step: Remove the old wrap.

We discovered two things: (a) removing vinyl wrap takes longer than you think, and (b) there was a lot of racecar-level bodywork under cover of vinyl. What’s more, there was more bodywork needed before we could move ahead. That’s fine with us – this is a racecar, so we were happy to roll with it.

Once we got into it, the kids learned that vinyl wrapping a car is easy…right until it's not. The devil is in the details.

Wrapping a car is a great skill to pick up, and The Community Garage is very happy to help these guys get their first go at it. Besides, it’s a racecar, how bad could we mess it up?

The theme of our wrap is a bit of an homage to the vintage Mustangs from the early years of Trans Am racing. Dr. John’s favorite livery comes from Bud Moore's team. They fielded a pair of 1969 Boss 302 Mustangs driven by Parnelli Jones and George Follmer.

We took some liberties with the design…

And then we got inspired by Quentin Tarantino. If you know, you know…
After a couple of weeks with the kids in and out of the Trade Collective shop, we must put everything back together for our next event. I’d say the end result nailed the historic-grindhouse vibe we were after for this livery.

See you at the track!
