The Community Garage members headed to the cheese-filled land of Wisconsin to visit one of the most iconic tracks in North America, the legendary Road America!
This was an IMSA event, so the very highest levels of GT, prototype, and hypercar racing was one full display.
To make our trip even better, we were granted VIP access to the race garage of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. They campaign two BMW hypercars! Huge thanks to Doug Goodman and Reese Fokine for the warm welcome into the RLL camp. We're looking forward to a trip to Indianapolis to see the RLL home shop (Indycar and Hypercar all under one roof).
The whole weekend was non-stop action on track. Several terrific races were held from the support series who took to the track before the big IMSA race. MX-5 Cup Miatas offered no quarter within that pack of angry bees, and the GT4 cars clocked amazing lap times. Then the Lamborghini Super Trofeo cars came out in force – and they sound fantastic! These guys know how to party.
Team "Sprinkle Farts" was a huge hit - I mean, who doesn't love a farting unicorn?!?
Additional thanks go to our hosts, Dave and Amy who extended great hospitality to us. We even got to see Dave’s awesome MG Midget race car and take a few laps on his slot car track.
The Race - NEVER STOPS
On Saturday night we took a detour from asphalt racing and saw some of the local dirt track action! Quick Tip: If you ever go to see a dirt track race, bring safety glasses, a change of clothes, and don't smile (the dirt flies everywhere!) - oh, and don't forget ear plugs (seriously, you’re going to have to speak up now).
The weekend was a ton of fun as we roamed the hills of Road America to see all the cars in action. [That golf cart was entirely too small for all of us to fit…if you were there...you know.]
We’ll be going back to Road America very soon to see the Vintage Racers. Will you join us?
